I am gone through news of tesla is coming to India. It amazing… but more curious is price and features we will get in indian model. As in news indian government already reduced import duty from 110% to 15% on EV. This will impact a lot auto industry, specially Chinese players to feed cars easily in India like they did with smartphone phone industry.
Tesla cheapest car is model 3, that cost $35,000 in US and with a reduced import duty of 15-20%, the Model 3 is expected to cost between ₹35 to ₹40 lakh (approximately USD 40,000) in India.
Tesla failing in China due to BYD and personally I think Chinese and Japanese players know, how to trick the indian consumers on features?
Right now the news is too hyped, the somewhere I read the car price is Rs17Lac to Rs20Lac. If this kind of pricing possible with tesla cars even without an autonomous features, well nothing better than this.
Key point here is: why other manufacture in India not have similar price?
As you mentioned, even tesla most of car components outsource from Chinese Manufactures. This the key reason for failing in china. Indian market gonna be tuff for tesla:sob:
I agree with this, that’s why there are so many handholding between Musk and Indian government. Additional there are regulations that any company should have major production in India to gain the tax benefits. In the absence of tax benefits standing of Tesla in competitive Indian market would be difficult.
I think reduction of tax from 110% to 15% can allow car companies better to test the market and consumers before establishing full manufacturing setup. Pretty sure, this 95% reduction have some cap on number of car sales.
